Sightseeing in New York
New York has many architectural landmarks and is the cultural and artistic center of the east coast. the great part of the attractions is located in Manhattan. Opened in 1902, the triangular Flatiron Building was the first skyscraper in the city. Other well known buildings are the Woolworth Building (opened in 1913), the Chrysler Building (1930) which was built in the Art Deco style and the building complex of the Rockefeller Center with the NBC studio built in 1939. Among the world´s most visited monuments is also the Empire State Building opened in 1931, which is one of the highest building in New York. Approximately 3.5 million visitors per year use the observation deck and enjoy the spectacular view.
The city is also charakterized by numerous churches such as the Saint Patrick's Cathedral (completed in 1879), the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, the famous Trinity Church at the bottom of Wall Street, the "United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism" and the "Armenian Apostolic Church of America Eastern Prelacy".
One of the most famous New York City landmarks is the Statue of Liberty on the Liberty Island, which has been classified as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1984. Other important buildings are the New York the Grand Central Terminal, the Brooklyn Bridge which connects Manhattan and Brooklyn, the Times Square, the arena Madison Square Garden and the concert hall Carnegie Hall.
